(FOX40.COM) — A longtime jewelry store in the Arden-Arcade area may be forced to close its doors after a brazen daytime robbery just days before Christmas.
The owner of Alta Arden Watches and Jewelry Repair says thieves stole more than a dozen gold and diamond rings valued at over $25,000 during normal business hours along busy Fulton Avenue.
Surveillance video shows one suspect running off with jewelry while another attempted to grab more items. The owner says he did not fight back out of fear the suspect may have been armed.
Deputies with the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office responded, took fingerprints, and collected surveillance footage. A police report has been filed.
Just over the weekend, the owner says the same suspects may have returned, this time wearing gloves and masks but the store was closed and locked.
The business has been open for more than 20 years, and the owner says he has never experienced anything like this. He says the loss comes at a difficult time, as the business is already behind on rent and struggling with low customer traffic.
The store has security cameras inside and outside, but the property does not provide on-site security. The owner also says his insurance policy only covers the property, not stolen merchandise.
Now, the family says they may have no choice but to close permanently. A GoFundMe has been created to help the business recover.
