Re “Greens should heed … greens” (Dec. 28): Thank you for your editorial about climate change. A large majority want government to take action on climate change, but at the same time climate is rated as “less important” than economic issues. Not surprising, given most families are barely keeping their heads above water financially.
There is another reason. Fossil fuel companies were told all about climate change decades ago by their own scientists. Rather than share this information, they covered it up, funded groups to say it wasn’t real or it wasn’t that bad, delaying the transition and making more money.
They also convinced most Republican politicians to follow the same line. Consider the current administration, canceling nearly completed clean energy projects, ordering obsolete coal plants to stay open and encouraging “drill, baby, drill.” This is a massive failure to lead on the most important issue of our time.
Tell your leaders you are tired of this nonsense.
