More than a dozen people accused of drug-related charges were arrested Friday at the Abbey Food & Bar in West Hollywood, according to law enforcement.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department executed an undercover operation in response to community members’ complaints about pickpocketing, drug sales and criminal activity at the famed bar, it said. Thirteen people, included staff and patrons, were arrested as a result.
“That is unfortunate, we do have a lot of issues and drugs in West Hollywood,” said Ian Park, a community member. “I, myself, am in recovery, and I don’t think it’s ever going away, but it’s nice to have some awareness about the issues and drugs here.”
LASD said it’s conducted similar operations in the city in the past. Some residents said they weren’t surprised to hear about the arrests.
“Sadly, that’s been going on in West Hollywood and other cities for as long as I can remember, so I don’t think the Abbey is specifically at fault,” said James Lemma.
Some people were in panic during the bust because they mistook it for an immigration operation. LASD confirmed its execution did not involve federal agents.
The case is now under investigation by the LASD narcotics division. It did not release the names of those who were arrested nor did it detail what charges they may face.
