A man is facing criminal charges after he was caught in the act of cutting copper wire along the Sacramento light rail track on Christmas Eve, according to the sheriff’s office. Investigators believe the suspect may be connected to similar crimes.The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said its deputies assigned to Sacramento Regional Transit found 32-year-old Addison Jones cutting the wire on the tracks between the Sunrise and Hazel stations on Dec. 24. Officials said Jones stole the wire from poles supporting the overhead catenary system, and multiple poles had been damaged in the area. Deputies found him with the stolen wire and wire cutters. The sheriff’s office said its deputies also recovered around two pounds of stolen copper wire and additional burglary tools in Jones’ hotel room. Jones was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail for copper theft, damaging railroad property, vandalism, possession of burglary tools and trespassing on SacRT property. Officials said investigators believe Jones may have been involved in other unreported crimes. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.
