Fresno Unified retirees lose medical coverage after Aetna contract deadline passes

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) — Thousands of Fresno Unified retirees on Medicare have been cut off from all medical care as of the new year.

Contract negotiations between Aetna and Community Medical Centers and Community Health Partners were not resolved by the December 31, 2025 deadline, resulting in the contract ending.

Fresno Unified Superintendent Misty Her says retirees can still be seen if they have an emergency.

She encourages affected employees to work directly with Aetna Member Services regarding their specific plan and circumstances, and to note that the district is evaluating all options.
