A 23-year-old man was arrested Tuesday at West Los Angeles college in Culver City on suspicion of gun possession, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department told NBC4 Investigates.
Deputies responded to a call from a student who said a man was seen with the handgun on campus. They searched the campus and found the 23-year-old suspect.
Deputies later found security camera video that showed the suspect taking a handgun out of a backpack and putting it in his waistband, the LASD said.
The weapon was recovered Wednesday when deputies found it in a trash can, the LASD said.
The 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of bringing/possessing and firearm on schools ground. The suspect is not a student at the school.
West Los Angeles College is part of the California Community Colleges System and the Los Angeles Community College District. It has a total enrollment of about 11,900.
