The Los Angeles Fire Department encourages households to remove and recycle their Christmas trees as soon as possible. At Station 106 on Roscoe Boulevard in West Hills, Christmas trees are being turned in and then sent to Los Angeles Sanitation & Environment where the trees are turned into free mulch for Los Angeles residents. The mulch is also used by the city for landscaping and parks.

Another way to recycle your Christmas tree is by using LA Sanitation’s curbside collection. Residents can put their Christmas trees in their green yard trimming bins on the regular pick-up collection day, after removing all ornaments and cutting the tree into pieces that fit in the bin.
For those whose Christmas trees are too big to cut into pieces, or if you live in a multi-family building, leave your tree — without ornaments and lights — on the curbside on your regular trash collection day.
