BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – After giving up the opening goal of the match, Cal State Fullerton scored five unanswered on its way to a 5-2 victory on the road over Cal State Bakersfield.
Coming into the game Bakersfield was atop The Big West table with 11 points and the Titans trailing in second with 10 points. With the win the Titans take sole possession of first place with 13 points and a 4-1-1 record in conference play. Fullerton is now 7-4-5 overall on the year.
Mario Carlos was the Titans standout performer of the match, scoring a hat-trick which included two first half goals. Carlos is the first Titan to record a hat-trick since Erick Serrano did so on Sept. 1, 2024 against Utah Tech. Carlos now has a team-high 14 points and seven goals this year, both of which lead The Big West.
The Roadrunners scored the opening goal in the 22nd minute on a misplay by Fullerton’s goalkeeper who slipped while setting up to kick the ball.
Fullerton took just seven minutes to find the equalizer as Carlos finished a cross sent through by Alex Lugo to make it a 1-1 match.

Carlos and the Titans wasted no time in the second half, scoring in the 47th minute on a great setup by the offense. Lugo recorded his second assist of the match on the goal while Fernando Valenzuela picked up the hockey assist.
