FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A phone charger malfunctioned, leaving a Fresno home filled with smoke Tuesday.

Just after 4:40 p.m., fire crews received reports of a possible house fire on Swift Avenue, near Delbert Avenue.

When crews arrived, they found smoke throughout the home and began a thorough search to locate the source.

Firefighters determined the smoke was caused by a malfunctioning cell phone that had been left charging.

Officials say the lithium-ion battery did not enter the thermal runaway phase and did not ignite any surrounding materials.

Fresno Fire reminds residents to only use manufacturer-approved accessories and avoid leaving devices unattended while charging.
