Travelers flying from Bakersfield to Dallas-Fort Worth will be forced to adjust as American Airlines will suspend the route from Feb. 11 to April 7.
Jared Salvo, a cardiologist in Bakersfield, expressed frustration after learning on New Year’s Eve that his future flights were canceled.
“I was just disappointed because it seems kind of capricious that they would cancel the trip without any advance notice,” Salvo said.
He spent an additional $1,500 to book with United Airlines, the only other carrier at Meadows Field.

American Airlines cited seasonal adjustments for the suspension, stating, “We are always evaluating demand and making adjustments as needed to support our customers and network.”
Bill LaManque, the Kern County director of airports, acknowledged the disappointment but remains optimistic about the airport’s potential, noting a 14% increase in passenger numbers last year.
Travel agent Ray Watson, the president of Uniglobe Golden Empire Travel, emphasized the need for local support to attract more carriers, while Kathi Lowry, owner of L.E.G. Travel, suggested adding a flight to Las Vegas.
Shajar Khan, a recent traveler from Dallas, hopes the route will resume as planned, noting, “This flight was full also. I think there’s enough traffic.”
