SUNNYVALE, Calif. (Oct. 18) – The UC Santa Barbara Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams lined up for their last regular season meet in Sunnyvale, Calif. at the Bronco Invitational. The UCSB squads once again rose to the challenge in their second big invitational of the season, with the women finishing first overall in a field of 16 teams and the men finishing second against 18 other programs. Facing competition from notable teams both in and outside of their conference, the Gauchos were able to once again showcase their strength and depth as they head into the weeks leading up to the Big West Championships.
HOW IT HAPPENED
With a commanding victory, Zach Parker finished first overall in the men’s 8k course with a season best of 23:43.4, leading the Gauchos to a 76-point second place team finish. Nate Osborn and Conrad Voight were able to fend off competition in a tough field to finish in the top 20, clocking in at 24:21.3 and 24:21.6 respectively. Matthew Gallindo and Will Mullein followed close behind to score critical points for the Gauchos, finishing in times of 24:44.9 and 24:47.2.
On the women’s side, the Gauchos secured an impressive first-place team finish in a field of 16 programs. Freshmen led the charge, as the first three UCSB runners across the line were all in their debut collegiate season, with all five scoring runners placing inside the top 25. Addie Oversmith once again paced the Gauchos, earning a second-place finish in 20:33.6. Isabel Ross followed close behind in 21:06.0, with Jordin Lieberman next at 21:19.3. Danielle Hollander finishing in 21:25.4 and Kiera Sorenson in 21:26.4 rounded out the scoring five to secure UCSB’s 69-point team victory
Up next, the Gauchos will travel to Hawaii for the Big West Championships, hosted by the University of Hawaii on Oct. 31. Following a strong regular season, UC Santa Barbara will look to climb the conference rankings and secure a spot at NCAA Regionals. The meet will open with the men’s 8K at 7:30 a.m. HT, followed by the women’s 6K at 8:30 a.m. HT, with the awards ceremony set for 9:30 a.m. HT.
