BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — The Kern County Coroner’s Office has identified the six-year-old girl who died after a crash near Mojave on New Year’s Eve as Zyon Kaween Romero of Weldon.

The California Highway Patrol said on December 31, 2025, at around 12:41 p.m., officers were called to a crash on southbound Highway 14, north of Phillips Road.

According to the CHP’s website, a driver was reportedly being forced off the highway by two other vehicles. Shortly later, a vehicle was reported to have rolled over, landing on its side.

CHP said a Chevrolet Tahoe driven by a 40-year-old woman, for reasons still under investigation, lost control and overturned in the center median, causing a six-year-old child to be ejected from the vehicle.

According to CHP, the child died. Two other children, ages 9 and 11, sustained minor to moderate injuries.

The driver sustained moderate injuries. All three people were taken to a hospital for treatment.
