Re “Balboa Park parking fees bring surprise, confusion” (Jan. 6): After reading the entire article on this mess, I can safely say a few obvious things about the San Diego city government. One, when no one is in charge, no one is responsible (classic definition of a bureaucracy), which is obviously the case here (project management 101, folks). Two, if these folks are the “best and brightest” (the excuse they use to justify high salaries, benefits and pensions), this does not bode well for that argument. Finally, let’s not forget the root cause of the entire parking mess: the total mismanagement of other people’s money, causing the city to run massive budget deficits!
Can we admit that maybe, just maybe, we do not have the best or the brightest running things?
