TROY, Mich. – A 32-year-old Troy man is facing charges after reportedly abusing a small dog.
According to authorities, police received an animal complaint on Jan. 3 from a caller at an apartment complex on Coachman Drive. The caller told police they could hear a dog squealing and were concerned the dog was being abused.
The dog’s owner, Bradley James Vincent, reportedly admitted to first responders that he had abused his dog.
The dog is described as a small mixed breed weighing about 30 pounds. Police said she was taken to a veterinarian to have her multiple injuries treated.
Vincent was arrested for animal abuse/torture and was charged Tuesday, Jan. 6, with cruelty to an animal.
His bond was set at $5,000.
In Michigan, it is a felony to intentionally kill or torture an animal. Penalties for torturing or killing an animal can vary in severity in Michigan and can be impacted by many factors, including whether the animal is a pet or a companion animal. Someone convicted of animal cruelty as a form of domestic violence can face up to 10 years in prison.
