TEMPE, Ariz. – Three Aztec teams are advancing to the doubles round of 16 at the ITA Southwest Regional Championships after winning their respective matches in Saturday’s round of 32. Imran Daniel Hazli/Lars Johann, Denis Maijorov/William Kleege and Brock Anderson/Aleksi Lofman are each moving on and will compete again on Sunday.
After a first-round bye, Hazli and Johann took down UC Irvine’s Max Fardanesh and Sohrob Amiryavari in an 8-2 victory.
Maijorov and Kleege earned their spot in the round of 16 with an 8-3 win over Pepijn Bastiaansen and Cole Stelse out of Arizona.
Anderson and Lofman tabbed the final Aztec victory of the day. The duo battled in a tiebreaker against Arizona’s Hiroki Sakagawa and Tal Goodman, coming out on top 8-7 (7-4).
The round of 16 will get underway at noon PT at the Kiwanis Tennis Center.
