BAKERSFIELD, Calif.(KBAK/KBFX) — The bicyclist who was struck and killed on Highway 178 at Union Avenue on Jan. 4 has been identified as Renessa Leanne Holguin, 44, of Bakersfield, according to the Kern County coroner.
The incident happened at around 9:09 p.m. on westbound Highway 178 at the Union Avenue off-ramp. Holguin was pronounced dead shortly before 9:30 p.m.

CHP’s investigation revealed that Holguin was riding her bicycle west on the Union Avenue off-ramp from westbound Highway 178 when a 23-year-old man driving a 2007 Honda sedan, also westbound on Highway 178, exited onto Union Avenue.

Due to the location of the bicyclist and the lighting conditions, the Honda collided with Holguin, causing her to be ejected from her bicycle and resulting in her death.
The driver of the Honda remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
