FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) — A World War II veteran from Fresno celebrated his 100th birthday with the community, on Saturday, Jan. 10, at the Veterans Memorial Museum in Fresno.
David Fusinato, who served in the Marine Corps for nearly three years, participated in the Battle of Okinawa, the last major battle of the war before the atomic bombs were dropped.
“We were so busy in the tanks, we didn’t have time to get scared or anything,” Fusinato said. “It was just day to day.”
At 100, Fusinato remains active, working as a tour guide in the museum.
“I’m the oldest docent here,” Fusinato said. “I’ve been here the longest of any of them.”
He also builds scale models for the museum, drives his Mustang and lives independently.
His son, Dave Fusinato Jr., described him as “very independent” and emphasized the importance of staying active.
Fusinato shared his secrets to longevity:
“I keep busy” “I drive fast cars” “I drink red wine” “I date younger women, of course they are all younger than I am.
Fusinato Jr. expressed gratitude for his father’s health and presence
“I’m feeling fortunate, just to still have him in my life and our lives,” Fusinato Jr. said. “I’m feeling blessed.”
Fusinato expressed his gratitude for the recognition and said it was an honor to serve the country and an honor to be celebrated by this community.
