A man has died from a traumatic brain injury after a monthlong hospitalization following a scooter crash outside of Moffitt Library, according to a UCPD report.

On Dec. 1, UCPD received several emergency calls reporting an unconscious male who had fallen off his scooter and hit his head on the south side of the library, according to the report.

UCPD and the Berkeley Fire Department arrived on the scene to find the victim unconscious but still breathing. After providing “immediate aid,” he was moved to a local hospital for further treatment.

Last Saturday, the Alameda County Coroner’s Office alerted UCPD that the victim would likely be taken off life support, as he had still not recovered from his brain injury, the report said.

The man, who is not affiliated with UC Berkeley, was identified as Kenneth Wade and confirmed dead Monday due to complications of blunt head trauma, according to Sergeant Victor Galindo from the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office.

Correction 1/9/2026: A previous version of this article stated that the scooter involved in the accident was an electric scooter. In fact, UCPD did not specify what kind of scooter it was.
