LEONARDTOWN, Md. — An 18-year-old California man was arrested Friday in a Leonardtown ghost gun arrest that resulted in multiple firearm charges after authorities say he was found with a loaded unserialized handgun during a traffic stop. Omari Lee Miles faces six firearm-related charges and is being held without bond.

Detectives from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division were conducting proactive enforcement in the 21000 block of Colton Point Road in Avenue on October 17, 2025, when they observed a subject known to be prohibited from possessing firearms due to age in possession of a suspected firearm, according to authorities.

Detectives requested patrol units to assist. A traffic stop was initiated on a gold SUV in the 22000 block of Duke Street in Leonardtown. During the traffic stop, authorities conducted a search of the vehicle and occupants.

Miles, a passenger in the vehicle, was found in possession of a loaded Polymer 80 9mm handgun with an extended 40-round magazine, according to the sheriff’s office. Polymer 80 firearms are commonly known as ghost guns because they lack serial numbers and are difficult to trace, according to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Miles was taken into custody and charged with six firearm-related offenses including wearing a handgun on his person, wearing a loaded handgun on his person, wearing a handgun in a vehicle on public roads, wearing a loaded handgun in a vehicle on public roads, unlawfully possessing an unserialized firearm, and possession of a regulated firearm while under the age of 21.

Wearing a loaded handgun carries a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment and a $2,500 fine under Maryland law. Possession of an unserialized firearm carries a maximum sentence of five years imprisonment and a $10,000 fine. Possession of a regulated firearm while under 21 carries a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment and a $10,000 fine.

Miles was transported to St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center where he is currently being held without bond. All proceedings will take place in St. Mary’s County courts.
