A 38-year-old man who was fatally stabbed during an argument in downtown Los Angeles was identified by county authorities Monday.

Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Newton Division responded at 1:42 a.m. Saturday to Seventh and Mateo streets, about a quarter-mile west of the Seventh Street Bridge, an LAPD spokesman told City News Service.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics were called to the scene, where they pronounced the victim dead.

He was identified by the Los Angeles County medical examiner’s office as John Riojas, whose place of residence was not immediately available.

The suspect ran from the scene, police said.
