Yolo County will be receiving $175,000 from the city of West Sacramento for providing assistance to the Athletics baseball team.
The agreement is expected to be a money-maker, according to the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office.
Approved by Yolo supervisors on Tuesday, the agreement for services is set “well in advance of events,” which means actual costs are not yet known.
“Because compensation received is based on actual hours worked and salary expenditures, it is difficult to anticipate the resulting revenue,” according to a staff report. “Based on Sheriff’s Office billing from April 2025 to August 2025, and the assumption that services will be needed over a three-year period, maximum compensation is being increased to $175,000.”
Last February, the board approved an agreement with the City of West Sacramento to provide supplemental law enforcement services during special events, primarily during baseball games for the Athletics held at Sutter Health Park.
Supplemental law enforcement services were to include traffic control and stadium security to augment West Sacramento’s abilities for handling the special events, with the intention that the city would minimize the need for outside law enforcement personnel to serve in more primary roles and that the county’s participating agencies would prioritize their own law enforcement needs, according to staff.
Total compensation under this agreement was capped at $50,000, but as of Aug. 31, the Sheriff’s Office has billed about $58,000, necessitating an amendment to increase the maximum compensation for the life of the agreement.
After discussion with West Sacramento city staff, it was determined that increasing the maximum compensation to $175,000 would be appropriate.
Under California government code, official approval is necessary when one governmental agency provides services to another jurisdiction. In this case, the Sheriff’s Office is providing assistance to the West Sacramento police.
