FRESNO, CA (KMJ) – An urgent plea by the Central California Blood Center:

“This weekend, lives changed in an instant. A major multi-vehicle crash on Hwy 99 caused severe injuries, creating an urgent need for many units of blood. As victims continue their fight to recover, replenishing the blood supply now depends on donors stepping up. ”

Blood donation takes less than one hour to complete. Donors must be in good general health, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be at least 17 years old (16 years old with written parental consent). Senior citizens are encouraged to donate, as there is no upper age limit. Donors should eat a good meal and drink plenty of water within 4 hours prior to their donation.

Donors can give blood every eight weeks. Photo ID is required at donor registration.

“This January, we’re thanking our donor heroes with NEW special edition socks — wear them proudly as a symbol of the lives you’ve saved and the hope you’ve given. You’ll also receive a FREE Pita from Hummus Republic (North Valley Donor Centers & Mobiles Only)!”
