Proposition 50 robs power from voters and transfers it to the politicians in Sacramento.
It robs us of future state revenues: on page 9 of the Official Voter Information Guide it says, “This (proposition) would result in one-time costs of up to a few million dollars statewide and one-time costs to the state of roughly $200,000.” Up to a few million? Roughly? Do you handle your finances like that? And those amounts are guaranteed to grow.
It has robbed the state treasury already: the cost of this special election will be north of 280 million dollars.
In 2008, we passed Proposition 11 (Voters FIRST Act) which created the California Citizens Redistricting Commission wresting power from the pols. Proposition 20 (Voters FIRST Act for Congress), which extended the scope of the commission, was passed by voters in 2010.
We don’t want to cede more of the people’s power to Sacramento. Prop 50 does that. This prop suspends the commission and lies when it says it’s only temporary. When was the last time a California government program or tax was temporary?
Halt, thief! Voters, don’t let 50 rip you off. Vote NO on 50.
