Local activists say they’re upset after video shows a San Diego police officer hitting a man face down, on his head. SDPD Chief Scott Wahl told KOGO’s Conway and Larson show, police responded to a home where a man was banging on the door of his ex-girlfriend.

“These officers are juggling a lot of things. This person was supposed to have a weapon on them, it turned out later to be a screwdriver in his pocket,” Chief Wahl said during Tuesday night’s interview.

“When the officer did go to grab on to his hands, you can hear him in the video say ‘let go, let go,’ and he’s talking about his hands that are interlaced on his head. We do have options that we could, and should be using at that point other than what was used.”

Wahl told Conway and Larson that all officers will undergo a review on arrest and apprehension procedures.

Meanwhile, some people have taken to social media calling the force “excessive” and illegal and are demanding accountability.
