SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – A California City, California, man has been convicted of Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance for his participation in a large-scale drug conspiracy in Sioux Falls.
According to U.S. Attorney Ron Parsons, Alonzo Green, 43, was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison, 5 years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
Green was indicted for Conspiracy to Distribute a Controlled Substance by a federal grand jury in October 2024 and pleaded guilty on October 8, 2025.
Green was part of a California-based drug group that started operating in Sioux Falls in 2023, sourcing large amounts of narcotics like meth and fentanyl from California, and using short-term rentals to distribute the drugs locally.
Green directed multiple shipments of drugs through the mail and assisted in driving loads of drugs from California to South Dakota.
He was arrested on September 17, 2024, while transporting drugs.
Green and a co-conspirator were stopped by the South Dakota Highway Patrol in Hot Springs, where DEA agents obtained a warrant and found over 4,900 grams of methamphetamine and 925 grams of powder fentanyl in Green’s vehicle.
“This was a tremendous arrest resulting in an appropriate prison sentence that has significantly disrupted the activities of this California-based drug trafficking organization in South Dakota,” said U.S. Attorney Parsons.
“Impressive work all around by these dedicated law enforcement officers.”
This case was investigated by the DEA, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the South Dakota Highway Patrol, and the Sioux Falls Area Drug Task Force.
