51-year-old Jesse Jeremiah was arrested in connection to a serial copper theft investigation that was tied to disruptions on SacRT services.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A man was arrested in connection to a serial copper theft investigation that led to disruptions to Sacramento Regional Transit District services, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials said 51-year-old Jesse Jeremiah was arrested overnight. Deputies found him near light rail tracks with a wagon, which officials say had 18 large strands of copper wire belonging to SacRT and multiple burglary tools.

A follow-up investigation led deputies to Jeremiah’s storage unit where more copper wire, identifiable clothing and a metal cart were found, officials said. The sheriff’s office said surveillance video linked those items to additional copper theft cases, one of which caused $73,000 in damage.

Jeremiah was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail and is ineligible for bail.

Detectives believe he may be involved in other unreported thefts and has a lengthy criminal history, officials said.
