A woman died after a shooting early Thursday near A Street and Ahern Street in Sacramento. Homicide detectives are investigating.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A woman was killed in a shooting early Thursday morning in Sacramento, according to the Sacramento Police Department.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting just after 1:15 a.m. near A Street and Ahern Street. When officers arrived, they found one victim suffering from at least one gunshot wound, police said.

The woman was taken to a local hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

Due to the circumstances, homicide detectives and crime scene investigators were called to take over the investigation. Police said investigators are processing the scene, canvassing the area, and interviewing witnesses.

No suspect information has been released, and the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity after the next of kin have been notified.
