A man, a woman and a 17-year-old girl — all believed to be members of the same family — were shot to death inside a Lakewood home this morning, according to authorities.

The shooting was reported at about 7:55 a.m. in the 5800 block of Lorelei Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The area is a single-family residential neighborhood just north of South Street and west of Bellflower Boulevard.

When deputies arrived, they were met outside the home by a woman who was taken into custody for questioning. Investigators have not said if she is believed to be the shooter, but they do not believe there’s any further danger to the public.

Deputies entered the home and found the three people suffering from gunshot wounds to their upper torsos, said Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide Detective Daniel Vizcarra.

All three died at the scene. Vizcarra did not describe their exact relationships other than to say they are all believed to be from the same family. Their names were withheld pending notification of their next of kin.

A gun was recovered at the home, Vizcarra said, adding that detectives do not believe there are any outstanding suspects.

John, a neighbor who asked to be identified by only his first name, described a tense scene when deputies first arrived.

He was on a walk when he saw them enter the house with shields and weapons drawn, he said.

The deputies quickly emerged from the house and looked “dejected,” according to John, who said he’s lived in the area for about 18 years.

A short time later, someone on a loudspeaker at nearby Stephen Foster Elementary School announced that the school would not be placed on lockdown, John said.

Another neighbor said a family of five lived at the home: a father, mother and three daughters. Two of the daughters were adults who had since moved away, he said.
