BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — When an occupant of a Chevy Tahoe got out and punched him in the face, Jeeoler Raya said, “Stay here and see what’s going to happen,” according to sheriff’s reports.
Then he grabbed a gun from his bedroom, went back outside and opened fire on the SUV as it drove away, say the newly-released reports.
The driver was hit and seriously wounded, and Raya, 20, is being held without bail on charges including attempted murder.
The shooting happened on the night of Dec. 14 in south Bakersfield.
A witness told deputies he called someone to pick him up from Raya’s home. That person arrived in the SUV with two other people.
One of them got out and punched Raya, the witness said according to the reports.
Raya went inside, where his girlfriend noticed he had a bloody mouth, the reports say.
She told investigators Raya grabbed a gun from a bedroom closet, and “she followed him outside and saw him shoot towards the Chevrolet Tahoe,” according to the reports.
An occupant of the SUV described hearing eight shots, the reports say, then noticing the driver had been hit. One of the occupants got behind the wheel and drove to Kern Medical. The wounded man had surgery and was placed in the intensive care unit.
Raya was arrested in Phoenix on Dec. 17 and brought back to Kern County. He has pleaded not guilty and is due back in court Jan. 26.
