Lindsey, who missed Lakewood’s 48-40 loss to Jordan earlier in the season, wasn’t going to let her team lose again.
“I hate sitting out,” Lindsey said. “I’m a very competitive person and that really just put me up to want to win this game even more.”
Lakewood coach Eric Oswell was happy to see his team gain the lead in the first quarter.
“We played a horrible first quarter in that first loss,” Oswell said. “Yeah, it was a revenge game, but we knew we could play better than we did in the previous game.”
Lakewood (12-10, 6-1) opened the scoring with Laylah Patterson’s free throw two minutes into the game. It continued to build its lead with three minutes left in the quarter thanks to a 3-point shot from Leilah Sieng. A layup from Lindsey gave Lakewood a 10-5 lead going into the second quarter.
Lindsey helped Lakewood extend its lead in the second, opening the quarter by making two foul shots, and then hitting her first 3-pointer of the game, on a nice pass from Ramsey.
With Lakewood leading 17-10 midway through the second quarter, Jordan (14-8, 5-2) started chipping away, going on a five-point run to cut the Lakewood lead to 17-15.
Jah’Asharee Moore followed a rebound putback with a nice catch-and-shoot basket to give Jordan four quick points. Then Moore found Keira Vindel who drew a foul under the basket and made 1 of 2 shots from the line.
Moore finished the game with 17 points including two 3-pointers to go with seven rebounds and two steals. Keira Vindel had seven points and a block.
Lakewood extended its lead again 21-15 on two baskets by Lindsey.
The Lancers went on an 8-0 run in the third quarter with Lindsey continuing to drive the Lakewood offense, making two foul shots, a layup and 3-pointer in the scoring spree for a 29-18 lead.
Jordan’s Janiah Lorn countered with a 3-popinter with under two minutes left in the third.
A layup by Sieng in the final minute of the quarter staked Lakewood to a 31-21 lead heading into the fourth.
Lakewood continued to fend off Jordan for the first four minutes of the fourth quarter, with Laylah Patterson putting back a rebound and Mahlia Simmons making a foul shot for a 34-21 lead.
Vindel notched four points in the quarter and Moore drained a buzzer-beating 3-pointer for Jordan, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Lakewood’s lead.
Jordan coach Wesley Rosenbaum wants his team to take the loss in stride.
“It feels heavy right now, but in the grand scheme of things you’ve got to move forward,” Rosenbaum said. “Same thing after a win, you want to feel it and feel great, and after a loss you feel it, learn from it and get back to work.”
