Oilers' prospect Connor Ungar

Since he was promoted from the ECHL to the AHL in December, Condors’ goalie Connor Ungar has been unbeatable.

And it’s nothing new for the 24-year old Oilers’ prospect; he’s recorded similar numbers in the ECHL, where he’s played for three different teams this year alone.

It seems Oilers’ fans will need to start asking, Who? when the name Connor is mentioned with Edmonton, given they now have three in their organization who are playing extremely well.

Connor Ingram has shown he belongs in the NHL; Connor McDavid, well, we know what he’s all about; and now we have Connor Ungar, who is 6-0-0, 1.32 GAA and .955 SV%, since being promoted from Fort Wayne Comets of the ECHL.

The numbers are staggering. Considering he’s averaged a .944 SV% and 1.51 GAA over 11 games in the ECHL, his dominance isn’t a fluke.

With his level of play, the youngest of the three Connors is giving the Oilers GM and head coach pause for thought.

Will he be with the Oilers this year? It’s not a stretch to think he might, adding to the rollercoaster that has been Edmonton’s goalies this year.

The real question is who of Ungar and Pickard would Edmonton rather have on their roster, that gives them the best chance of winning when the post-season (or sooner) begins?

With Ungar’s confidence in goal, you have to wonder if he’s also not the goalie of the future. Of course, I’m getting ahead of myself; except, Connor has been a stud wherever he’s played.

It’s reasonable to project he’ll do the same in the coming years as well.
