Richard Fialho
OBITUARY
Richard Brotherton Fialho II, better known as Dick Fialho, was a loving father and husband, an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous in San Diego for over 40 years, and a business leader with RG Investment Real Estate Services Inc. He passed peacefully on the morning of January 7 with his family by his side at the age of 80 years old. He will be remembered by his wife Lenore, his son Alex, his brother Mike, his sister-in-law Kelley, and many more for his supportive and friendly presence and as a model of showing up.
Of Portuguese and Irish descent, Dick was born in Kansas City, MO, in 1945 to Richard Brotherton Fialho and Mary Avis Crowley. He grew up in Middletown, OH, with younger brothers Joseph and Michael Fialho, and graduated from Middletown High School. An avid golfer, Dick finished 2nd in the state of Ohio at 14 years old and 3rd at 15 years old. As a teenager, he also won the Brown’s Run Country Club championship three years in a row and the Club’s father-son golf tournament twice with his father. He received a full golf scholarship from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, OH, where he graduated with his BA after studying advertising, marketing, and business.
Shortly after graduating, Dick drove his mother and brothers from Ohio to Chula Vista, CA where his father had relocated for work as an engineer with Rohr Aircraft Co. Besides a brief time in New York City, training on Wall Street, Dick ultimately chose warmer pastures in Southern California. He spent about five years in Los Angeles, near Westwood, before moving permanently to San Diego, where he was a resident for over 50 years.
Dick was a deeply supportive father for his son Alex, born in San Diego in 1989 and raised with the utmost love alongside Alex’s mother and Dick’s then-wife Janet. He was very proud of Alex, who graduated with a BA from Stanford University in 2011 and is completing his PhD from Yale University in 2026. For over three decades, Dick lived in Tierrasanta, where he coached Alex’s sports teams with consistency and care for AYSO soccer and basketball at the Tierrasanta Recreation Center. Dick loved to play tennis and was a member of the Tierrasanta Tennis Club. He also enjoyed watching live sports and attending SDSU basketball games. On Father’s Day, he could reliably be found tuning in to the US Open golf tournament.
At the end of his life, Dick lived in San Carlos with his wife of ten years, Lenore McCorkle, and they mostly enjoyed time together in the comforts of their home. Dick was loving and generous to her daughters, Kelly and Erin, and her four grandchildren, Kash, Kayleigha, Harrison, and Briar. Though a homebody, Dick ventured abroad in his later years, always with Lenore by his side: first to Paris at age 65, to visit Alex, then to Winchester Cathedral in England, and to St. Andrews Links golf course in Scotland.
Dick will also be remembered for his service as a fellow of Alcoholics Anonymous in San Diego. One day at a time, he celebrated 40 years sober on November 7, 2025. Over decades, he sponsored many men and was a steady presence at AA meetings across San Diego. Dick remained deeply grateful for the new life AA offered him. As his longtime sponsor Ken D reflected, though Dick is physically gone, the light that he passed on to others experiencing the darkness of alcoholism will be carried forward.
In the mid-1990s, Dick orchestrated a merger that brought him to Radelow / Gittins Real Property Management Corporation as a commercial management specialist. In 2006, he became a partner at Radelow / Gittins and participated in the company’s rebranding as RG Investment Real Estate Services Inc. Well loved by clients and co-workers alike, and known for recruiting talented new associates, he worked there until his retirement in 2019. He was honored to be affiliated with the Institute of Real Estate Management, where he held the prestigious CPM designation.
Dick is survived by his wife Lenore McCorkle, son Alex Fialho, brother Michael Fialho, sister-in-law Kelley Fialho, and their families. Dick’s ashes will be scattered in meaningful locations by his family. A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, January 24 at 12pm at Aztlan Mortuary, 7856 La Mesa Blvd. Everyone is welcome.
