BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — A Bakersfield man accused of inflicting fatal injuries to his month-old son has been assigned a courtroom for trial on charges including second-degree murder.

Eduardo Gutierrez, 25, will stand trial in the courtroom of Judge John R. Brownlee.

On Nov. 24, 2024, Valentin Gutierrez was found motionless by his mother, who’d taken a nap after leaving him in the care of Eduardo Gutierrez, according to a court filing. She asked what happened.

“I made him stop crying,” the father said according to the filing.

The mother took Valentin to Memorial Hospital. He was transferred to Valley Children’s Hospital due to the severity of his injuries, which included skull fractures and bleeding on the brain. He was pronounced dead Dec. 2.
