Rising prices, housing costs, taking care of kids, or just navigating a big, car-packed city, there are plenty of sources of stress in our daily lives. Managing them well can make all the difference when it comes to quality of life… which is why finding a place to live as relaxed as possible is so important.
To tackle this, WalletHub rolled up its sleeves and dove into the data to find out which cities in the U.S. are the least stressed. One of them is just an hour from DTLA and it’s Irvine.
With just under 350,000 residents, this small Orange County city scores high on some of the best indicators, making it not only one of the best places to live but also one of the safest in the country, according to other studies.

But how did we know that it’s also one of the least stressed, or most relaxed, places to live? WalletHub analyzed 182 cities across the U.S. (including the 150 largest cities plus at least two of the biggest in each state) looking at four main types of stress: work, finances, family, health and safety.
They measured 39 different indicators, giving each a score from 0 to 100. Some data were only available at the state level. Then, they combined all the scores to get an overall stress rating for each city and ranked them from most to least stressed.
Irvine claimed a well-deserved #4 spot, and a few other California cities made the top ten as well. Here’s the complete list of America’s most relaxed cities.
