Most California State Parks will have free entry on MLK Jr. Day

  • January 19, 2026

CALIFORNIA (KOLO) – On Monday, Jan. 19, more than 200 California State Parks will be offering free vehicle day-use entrance in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

“Hike, bike or take a stroll with your loved ones and enjoy the many benefits of spending time in the outdoors,” the park system’s Facebook post said.

It is valid for a passenger vehicle with capacity of up to nine people or a motorcycle.

Free entry is being made possible by the California State Parks Foundation, a proponent of the free California State Library Parks Pass.

The parks participating on MLK Day are the same parks that accept the library pass year-round.

Some parks, including state vehicular recreation areas (off-highway vehicle parks), those with per-person entry or tour fees like Hearst Castle, and those that are operated by partner organizations, will still require a fee.
