A man assaulted last week in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood has died from his injuries, authorities said Sunday.
The San Francisco Police Department launched a homicide investigation after the victim succumbed to his injuries Saturday at the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The alleged assault happened around 4:30 p.m. Jan. 11 on the 300 block of Ellis Street, police said. The victim was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Officers arrested Willie Smith, 33, of San Rafael, on suspicion of aggravated assault and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the police department.
The department’s homicide detail is now leading the investigation, which remains open and active although an arrest has been made.
