The Press-Telegram high school girls basketball rankings as of Tuesday, Jan. 20. The team records are through Monday, Jan. 19.

GIRLS BASKETBALL TOP 10 RANKINGS

1. St. Joseph (17-5): The Jesters remain the No. 1 in this week’s rankings after going 2-1 last week with Del Rey League victories over No. 2 St. Anthony on Jan. 13 and La Salle on Jan. 15. Junior guard Tailele Wily-Ava scored a game-high 24 points against the Saints. Bella Harmon and Ava Washington both added 16 points. St. Joseph suffered a 72-44 nonleague loss to nationally-ranked Etiwanda on Saturday but after off to a 4-0 start in league play.

2. St. Anthony (15-7): The Saints went 0-2 last week, including a 74-62 loss at home to No. 1-ranked St. Joseph on Jan. 13. Senior guards Laila Hughes and Jordyn Washington combined for 40 points in the defeat. They will get another shot against the area’s No. 1 team to conclude Del Rey League play on Jan. 29 in Lakewood.

3. Paramount (17-4): The Pirates are on a nine-game win streak, including a 67-29 victory over then No. 5 ranked Downey on Jan. 14. They will host rival Lynwood for first place in the Gateway League on Wednesday.

4. Lynwood (9-12): The Knights went 2-0 last week with blowout Gateway League victories over Gahr and then No. 5-ranked Downey. The Knights will play at rival Paramount for first place in the league standings on Wednesday.

5. Lakewood (12-10): The Lancers move up to No. 5 after beating Jordan 34-29 on Jan. 16 for first place in the Moore League. Freshman guard Aniyah Lindsey scored a team-high 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Lakewood will host Long Beach Poly on Friday. They held on to win the first matchup 57-51 on Dec. 18.

6. Long Beach Jordan (14-8): The Panthers move up to No. 7 after consecutive victories over Long Beach Poly and No. 7-ranked Wilson last week. However, Jordan suffered a 34-29 loss against Lakewood that would have given them sole possession of first place in the Moore League. The Panthers are now tied with Wilson for second place in the league standings.

7. Los Alamitos (15-5): The Griffins move up to No. 7 after going 6-0 to begin Sunset League play last week.

8. Long Beach Wilson (16-6): The Bruins drop to No. 8 after losing a Moore League game to Jordan last week. Wilson is tied for second place in the league standings.

9. Downey (13-8): The Vikings drop to No. 9 after losing consecutive Gateway League games to No. 3 Paramount and No. 4 Lynwood by a combined 46 points. They will host La Mirada on Wednesday.

10. Cerritos (12-11): The Dons move into the Top 10 after a 5-0 start in the 605 League, which includes quality victories over Whitney and Pioneer. Coach Marcus Chinen also recently celebrated his 200th career win.
