Even if it’s overshadowed by newer rivals, the Ford Mustang Mach-E is still an impressive all-electric crossover. Aside from style, comfort and plenty of performance, the Dearborn, Michigan-based automaker is giving EV buyers yet another reason to consider this nameplate: Ford will offer a fashion-forward California Special model for 2026.

A Classic Trim Level Joins The Electric Age

But first, a little history. This special options package was introduced way back in 1968. So many copies of the then-new Mustang were sold in the Golden State that dealers there wanted something unique for California buyers. According to Ford, a little more than 4,000 examples of the California Special were sold that year, deliveries that were spurred on by the car’s red and black accents as well as its special aerodynamic add-ons.

“We are creating something new for Mustang brand today while making sure we respect its heritage,” noted Stefan Taylor, exterior designer at Ford in a media release shared by the company. “We made some bold changes,” he added.

Since the first version debuted, the automaker has offered subsequent Mustangs with a California Special package, which emphasizes appearance over all-out performance. Here, this version of the Mach-E gains unique 20-inch wheels with “GT/CS” lettering and gloss-black covers; there’s also a Rave Blue and illuminated pony emblem on the grille; and the vehicle gains a special hood graphic, one that was inspired by the rugged and beautiful California coast.

“We developed a new color called Rave Blue. It travels from light to dark, just like ocean water, and it’s extremely chromatic, going to a blue violet in some cases. It’s just a beautiful dynamic color,” explained Kristen Keenan, color and materials designer for Ford. This unique hue is found on this EV as well as the combustion-powered two-door Mustang fitted with this package.

Inside this Mach-E, there’s some California Special badging, so drivers never forget what they’re making monthly payments on, but beyond that, there are also performance front seats and special materials including Navy Pier ActiveX leather-like material and even Miko suede accents that incorporate a silver and blue stripe.

A High-Performance Options Package

But the new Mach-E California Special is more than just a pretty face, much more, in fact. This trim level is offered on the high-performance GT model, which delivers up to 480 horsepower and a staggering 700 pound-feet of torque, enough sausage gravy to get you to 60 mph in a good bit less than 4 seconds.

That’s pretty impressive performance, but if there’s a weakness to the Mach-E GT it’s range. This model should be able to drive an estimated 280 miles on a full charge. That figure isn’t terrible, but more would certainly be nice, ditto for quicker DC fast charging.

As an option, the California Special package for the 2026 Ford Mustang Mach-E GT will cost $2,495. That is, of course, above and beyond the vehicle price, which should start around $55,000 with delivery. Interested parties will be able to order a 2026 Mach-E on October 22, with deliveries commencing in the first quarter of next year.
