PIEDMONT – Two carjacking suspects were arrested Monday in Piedmont following a pursuit and collision, police said.

Officers initially received an alert that a stolen vehicle, a white Mitsubishi, had entered the city near the intersection of Oakland and Olive avenues, according to the Piedmont Police Department.

The Mitsubishi was carjacked earlier that day in Oakland by a suspect armed with a rifle, police said.

As Piedmont officers headed to the area, they spotted Oakland officers chasing the Mitsubishi eastbound on Oakland Avenue. The pursuit ended when the car collided with a gate on El Cerrito Avenue, near Piedmont High School, police said.

Piedmont officers took the driver and a passenger into custody, as well as recovered a rifle, police said. The suspects and the gun were then turned over to Oakland officers.

The gate sustained minor damage, police said.
