Wyatt Vineyard, a 20-year-old from Lincoln, came away with his first Professional Bull Riders event win Saturday night, Jan. 17, at Toyota Arena in Ontario.

Vineyard went 2-for-3 at the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour PBR Ontario stop, to take the victory in his home state.

After the first round Friday night, Jan. 16, Vineyard, who’s from Lincoln, a Northern California town near Auburn, was on the leaderboard. Following the second round Saturday, he moved into the top spot.

“Heading into the championship round, Vineyard was laser-focused,” a PBR release says. “As his home state fans cheered, he was the last man on the back of the chutes readying to ride.”

He pushed hard, but despite that Vineyard came down hard after just 2.73 seconds, according to the release.

“Although the final round ride wasn’t successful, the 2-for-3 weekend clinched the first event win of Vineyard’s PBR career.”

He gained 107 Velocity Global points and sits at No. 43 in the Velocity standings. The points contribute to the Velocity Global Standings and determine which new riders are added to the elite Unleash The Beast throughout the season, according to the release. The Top 3 Velocity Global riders who have not already qualified are also invited to the PBR World Finals in May.

Dione de Souza Ribeiro, of Nova Bandeirantes, Brazil, claimed second for the weekend.
