BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A man was arrested after guns and ammunition, allegedly taken during a burglary at a firearms instructor school were found in his trailer in the Boron area.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office said on January 11, 2026, deputies assigned to the Mojave substation responded to a burglary investigation in the 14000 block of United Street in Mojave.

KSCO said during the investigation, deputies learned about $10,000 worth of ammunition, two guns, and property belonging to a firearms instructor school were stolen.

On January 20, 2026, Mojave and Boron deputies found and eventually arrested a wanted person, identified as Trent Vangelder, in the Boron area. KCSO said Vangelder is a convicted felon and has active warrants.

Vangelder also has multiple prior arrests for possession of stolen property and firearms possession.

During the incident, deputies allegedly found live ammunition, property and documentation belonging to the victims of the same burglary in Mojave on January 11, 2026 inside Vangelder’s travel trailer. Additionally, two unrelated firearms, soft body armor, and a pepper ball launcher were also found in the same trailer, according to KCSO.

Vangelder was booked into the Mojave Substation jail for violation of felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, felon in possession of tear gas, felon in possession of body armor, possession of stolen property and resisting arrest.
