That same day, Husien was accused of two additional robberies—one at a liquor store on McKee Road in San Jose, and one at a convenience store in an unknown location. The next day, Jan. 18, Joseph said Husien is believed to have carried out two more armed robberies, including another one on Coleman Avenue in San Jose and one in a separate jurisdiction on the peninsula. On Wednesday, Jan. 21, the stolen red Corvette was flagged by San Jose’s Real Time Intelligence Center, Joseph said. Officers located the vehicle and engaged in a brief pursuit with Husien before losing him. A short time later, the red Corvette was found abandoned. Just after 2 p.m. Wednesday, officers then responded to an armed carjacking at a San Jose dealership on Capitol Expressway. There, a green Corvette was stolen, the police chief said. Joseph said one of the police department’s helicopters tracked the suspect to Hollister, more than 40 miles from San Jose. Hollister police said its officers, around 3 p.m., were involved in a slow-speed pursuit involving the suspect. When the stolen vehicle became disabled, the suspect then got out of the vehicle and “engaged with officers with the firearm” before running away. No Hollister police officers were injured, the agency said.Shortly after, Husien was then encountered by San Benito County deputies, officials said. Another shootout occurred involving the suspect and deputies, with no deputy injured. Husien did, however, steal another vehicle at gunpoint.Joseph said Husien drove off at high speeds on the freeway, endangering other motorists. Hollister police noted on Wednesday that the suspect was also firing shots out of the vehicle. At 3:53 p.m., Joseph said Husien, who had returned to San Jose, collided with a stopped vehicle at the intersection of Julian Street and Notre Dame Avenue. Husien then got out of the stolen vehicle, Joseph said, and began firing shots and charging at a San Jose sergeant who was exiting their patrol vehicle. The sergeant was shot in the head, fracturing his skull, but continued to engage in a gun battle with the suspect. The police chief said Husien then tried to take the wounded sergeant’s patrol vehicle, getting into the driver’s seat, but was unsuccessful. He then got out and ran toward another stopped vehicle, but fell to the ground as officers fired at him and he was hit by a patrol vehicle. Joseph said the suspect continued to move and reach for a firearm as he was down, and officers continued to fire at the suspect. Husien was pronounced dead at the scene. Joseph likened the violent spree to an action movie. “But this was not a movie. This was a battle for that sergeant’s life,” Joseph said. “That’s not Hollywood, that’s real courage.”The San Jose chief said three sergeants and six officers were involved in use of force during the incident. Their years of service range from four to 19 years.“You saw dozens of officers running, literally running, toward gunfire,” Joseph said.Joseph said Husien’s connection to San Jose is unclear. However, several other armed robberies in various jurisdictions match the suspect’s description and methods. The spree remains under investigation by multiple law enforcement agencies.

No Hollister police officers were injured, the agency said.

Shortly after, Husien was then encountered by San Benito County deputies, officials said. Another shootout occurred involving the suspect and deputies, with no deputy injured. Husien did, however, steal another vehicle at gunpoint.

Joseph said Husien drove off at high speeds on the freeway, endangering other motorists.

“That’s not Hollywood, that’s real courage.”

The San Jose chief said three sergeants and six officers were involved in use of force during the incident. Their years of service range from four to 19 years.

“You saw dozens of officers running, literally running, toward gunfire,” Joseph said.

Joseph said Husien’s connection to San Jose is unclear. However, several other armed robberies in various jurisdictions match the suspect’s description and methods.

The spree remains under investigation by multiple law enforcement agencies.
