More than half a dozen people locked themselves inside San Diego mayor Todd Gloria’s office on Friday afternoon.

The protesters are calling the action a “sit-in.”

Photos and videos obtained by NBC 7 show the group barricaded inside the mayor’s office on the 11th floor at about 3 p.m.

The group posted notices of their intentions on the windows of the glass entryway of the offices and are demanding that Gloria meet with them to discuss the San Diego Police Department’s directives regarding interactions with federal immigration enforcement. Specifically of note, the group wants to set new standards for how the department responds to calls related to ICE operations.

Inside the office, the protesters could be heard chanting, “Hey, Todd, listen to the people.”

Another sign posted by the protesters who targeted San Diego mayor Todd Gloria’s office.

The incident comes on the same day that nationwide protests are ongoing, including in San Diego and in Minneapolis and St. Paul, where the so-called ICE Out for Good protest it appears tens of thousands of protesters massed in Minneapolis’ downtown core.

One event in San Diego that’s taking place is in Mira Mesa, where protesters are gathered outside the Homewood Suites, a Hilton-branded hotel. The protesters there are demanding that corporations like Hilton stop doing business with ICE.
