
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (Jan. 23, 2026) — A 78-year-old man using an electric wheelchair was killed Thursday evening after being struck by a pickup truck in Lake Isabella, authorities said.
The crash was reported on Jan. 22nd at about 5:58 p.m. at Lake Isabella Boulevard and Crestview Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP investigators said a 72-year-old man was driving a 2002 Toyota Tundra pickup truck northbound on Lake Isabella Boulevard. However, while approaching Crestview Avenue, he struck the elderly man in the roadway. For reasons that remain under investigation, the man in the electric wheelchair entered the roadway, traveling eastbound across Lake Isabella Boulevard, and moved into the truck’s path.
The pedestrian was struck by the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries. Paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced him dead.
The driver of the Toyota remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Authorities said alcohol or drugs were not believed to be factors in the crash.
The incident remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
