COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — A twice-convicted felon from California, accused of shipping over 90 kilograms of methamphetamine to central Ohio, has been sentenced in federal court a third time.
According to the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio, a man who pleaded guilty to smuggling drugs across the country and into Columbus will serve nearly 21 years in prison, his third multi-year sentence since 1991.

Troy Patterson, of Beverly Hills, California, was sentenced to 20 years and 10 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to conspiring to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine.
Patterson, 55, was responsible for nearly 14 kilograms of methamphetamine and over 77 kilograms of narcotic mixtures containing methamphetamine, after shipping at least 150 parcels containing kilogram quantities of narcotics to central Ohio. The shipments occurred between December 2020 and April 2023, court documents said.
The attorney’s office said that Patterson is a repeat offender, in both local and federal districts, having served time on several convictions, including domestic violence and aggravated burglary.

In 1991, Patterson was sentenced to 14 years in prison, followed by 1 year and 9 months in prison in 2005, both on federal drug trafficking cases. Shortly after a jury trial began in 2025, he pleaded guilty to his current charges.
Additionally, four co-defendants, Lewis Ruffin, Jaymie Prince, Nathaniel Broom, and Terion McPherson, were convicted in the case and were issued prison sentences ranging from three years to 16 years.
