The San Diego Wave have re-signed a young midfielder as they continue to rebuild their roster ahead of the 2026 season.
Gia Corley’s new deal will keep her in San Diego through the 2027 season. Terms of the deal, which was announced Monday, were not immediately available.
San Diego acquired Corley, 23, via transfer a year ago. Shescored five minutes into her first match with the team and followed with a game-winning goal in her second match, becoming just the sixth player in National Women’s Soccer League history to score in her first two regular-season matches. Corley started 21 of 24 matches in her first NWSL season, scoring twice and logging two assists.
“In her first season with the club, Gia’s impact on the ball, her work rate away from it, and her presence within the group quickly made her an important part of this team,” said Wave sporting director and general manager Camille Ashton. “She is part of a core group of young players that have demonstrated time and again what it means to represent the club and we’re very pleased to extend her future with the Wave for several more years.”
A native of Tacoma, Wash., Corley moved to Germany as a girl and holds dual citizenship in the United States and Germany. She played with TSG Hoffenheim Frauen of the Frauen-Bundesliga, Germany’s top women’s division, before being transferred to San Diego. She began her professional career with FC Bayern Munich at age 16.
The Wave open their 2026 season on March 14 with a home match against the Houston Dash.
