There is no verified evidence that Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, was present or operating in Berkeley or near the UC Berkeley campus today, as confirmed by the Alameda County Immigration Legal and Education Partnership.

Rumors initially started circulating on social media earlier this afternoon regarding an alleged ICE sighting on College Avenue. The Daily Californian spoke with the eyewitness who initially reported the rumor, as well as ASUC Senator Ayden Reading, who posted it on Instagram. The Daily Cal was unable to verify their accounts.

The Daily Cal reached out to campus officials and UCPD, none of whom have responded to inquiries as of press time.

UC Berkeley is required by state law to notify the student body when immigration enforcement is on campus. Campus officials said they will work to confirm any reported immigration enforcement activity “as quickly as possible” and issue an email notification with information about the enforcement action, according to an email sent to the campus community last Friday.

For further details about what to do if you see or interact with ICE, the Daily Cal has a FAQ outlining specific questions regarding ICE activity on campus and how to respond in the event of a confrontation with agents.
