MINNEAPOLIS (KFGO) — Among those at the scene of Saturday’s deadly shooting in south Minneapolis was a California Congressman.

Rep. Ro Khanna (D) visited with KFGO News Reporter Ryan Janke Monday afternoon. Khanna says he hopes President Donald Trump will start pulling federal agents out of Minneapolis.

“I hope he de-escalates. I hope he sees the division that he’s creating, that the ICE agents are creating. It’s not good for the country,” Khanna said.

He added the outrage over ICE operations has a personal overtone, as he is an immigrant and has personal ties to political unrest in India.

“My grandfather was in jail for four years in the 1930s, 1940s, as part of Gandhi’s independence movement,” Khanna said. “I’ve seen the Indian independence movement from history, the civil rights movement. This is the hope for a multiracial democracy that’s at stake.”

Earlier Monday, Khanna called for ICE agents involved in immigration enforcement in Minneapolis to be arrested and prosecuted.
