(FOX40.COM) — A person with dementia who walked away from a facility in the middle of the night was rescued by a Northern California K9, according to law enforcement.

Around 12:30 a.m. on Monday, the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for a person with dementia who walked away in Grass Valley. Deputies said that 20 search and rescue members helped search for the person. Search efforts included drones, ground teams, and two K9s.

Shortly after teams were deployed, one of the K9s alerted officers to a door of an outbuilding within the facility, according to NCSO. The person was found inside.

“Great teamwork by all agencies and team members to quickly bring this search to a happy ending,” NCSO said on social media. “A special thanks and treats to K9 Jax!”
