LONG BEACH, CA — One driver was arrested, and five more people were cited during a DUI checkpoint in Long Beach on Friday, police say.
Between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m., 1,290 vehicles passed through the checkpoint at Pacific Coast Highway and 2nd Street, the Long Beach Police Department said, adding that 517 drivers/vehicles were screened.
One driver was arrested on a count of DUI, while five other drivers were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed/suspended, according to police.
“The primary purpose of DUI/CDL checkpoints are to promote public safety, increase awareness of the dangers associated with drinking and driving, and deter impaired and unlicensed/suspended drivers,” police said.
